About Us

Duke Investment Club is Duke University’s premier undergraduate investment organization. Founded in 2011, the club is run by students under faculty guidance and manages a portion of Duke’s endowment in partnership with Duke University Management Company (DUMAC). Our purpose is two-fold: to produce attractive risk-adjusted returns and to cultivate the next generation of investors via our education initiatives.

What We Do

Investor Training Program

+

Our flagship 8-week course introduces accounting, valuation, and financial markets. No prior experience is required. See Recruitment page for more information.

General Body Meetings

+

Weekly meetings feature pitches, market discussions, and guest speakers from across the industry. Past GBMs have featured Manu Bettegowda (Managing Partner at Olympus Partners), Brad Gross (Head of Private Equity Americas at Goldman Sachs), Neal Triplett (President and CEO of DUMAC), Alex Wolf (Founder of Kingswood Capital and one of the original members on the investment teams at Ares Management and Cerberus Capital Management).

Investment Process

+

Our investment process is designed to promote rigorous research, collaborative debate, and disciplined decision-making.

Idea generation & pre-IC:Analysts identify potential opportunities and initial findings are shared to a select group of the Investment Committee for feedback and refinement.

Full IC:The team conducts deep fundamental analysis and the name is pitched at a GBM with full IC discussion afterwards. After discussion and questioning, the Investment Committee votes on whether to add the position to the portfolio.

Portfolio Tracking:Approved investments are continuously monitored for performance, thesis validation, and risk factors. Analysts provide updates and recommend adjustments as new information emerges.

Analyst Training Program

+

The Analyst Training Program builds on the Investor Training Program and equips analysts with deeper technical skills and practical investing experience.

- Lesson 1: Investment Philosophy
- Lesson 2: Accounting & Modeling
- Lesson 3: Business Quality Analysis
- Lesson 4: Valuation
- Lesson 5: How to Pitch
- Lesson 6: Recruiting

Throughout the course, each analyst will research a name assigned to them by their mentor. They will produce a thorough investment memo and build a 3-statement model.

Wall Street Bootcamp

+

Launched in 2023, the Wall Street Bootcamp prepares students for careers in financial services and the internship recruiting cycle. The program runs every fall and is open to all Duke sophomores. Students who complete the program will be sufficiently knowledgeable about how to prepare for interviews for roles such as investment banking, private equity, and hedge funds.
